Dogfight
Dogfight
Dogfight is one of the American Heritage games in the "Command decision" series of wargames published by Milton Bradley circa 1961-65. Definitely not for the hardcore wargamer, Dogfight is a light version of WWI air combat. The Germans and Americans each get 6 biplanes divided into 2 squadrons of 3 planes each. Each squadron gets a hand of combat maneuver cards and players move one plane from each squadron engaging and evading each other. For each plane shot down you receive an ace token that entitles you to hold a larger hand of cards. Anti-Aircraft guns guard each home squadron and the lucky flyer has the opportunity to strafe the enemy's planes on the ground. A great introductory wargame with easy to learn rules. Hi! Jim again. My childhood friend used to play this game when I slept over his house or he at mine. I would win about 50% of the time, had all the MB heritage games Broadside, BattleCry, can't remember the others there were 6 or 7 of them. All the games we had when we were kids can still be gotten on ebay. See you later.

I had a friend who had the game, and I played with him once. I still recall he attacked me and I had 3 Loop cards and thought I "Had him". He also had 3 loop cards and knew that was the maximum number a player could have, so each time I looped and attacked him, he would do the same and attack me. It ended with his 3rd loop and shooting me down. I never played it twice.

Steve Oelrich....thanx for the comment and mention of Joe Kubert...until now I'd never heard of him...other than the occasional "Sgt Rock" comic books I saw as a kid (comics were banned in our house) I had no idea who he was...your mention of him in regards to a comment on the game "Dogfight" got me to do a Google on him and find his school's FB page...THANK YOU!!! I too was a big fan of WWI aviation as a kid and read everything I could get my hands on....Arch Whitehouse, Nordhoff & Hall...

This was a personal favorite for many years. I was fascinated by World War I-era air warfare -- saw "The Blue Max" and collected Joe Kubert's beautiful work in comics on "Enemy Ace" (a brilliant concept) -- and this was a natural extension of that.
