@Doot - The answer to your question is "YES" to both "Yes" it is a sign of the times and "Yes", you're an "Old Fart". But it takes one to know one - so that makes me an "Old Fart" too (and I'm proud of it) LOL
Mad did a great parady of the Crest Toothpaste ad, that is shown earlier in this section. It was an example of the high level of art work at the magazine in those years. Unfortunately, that no longer seems to be the case. A sign of the times or am I just an old fart?
I have most the MAD paperbacks sold in the 50s and 60s (?)! Not only the one mentioned but the ones paroding the Blackhawks, King Kong, Walt Disney, Batman, and many, many more. Have not read them for quite a long time as I have them and a lot of other books, in a box somewhere in my apartment!
Even after 50 yrs...every time a see a documentary about the pyramids, I think of the drawing he did in the margin of one issue showing tourists looking in awe at the pyramid and below the surface is a HUGE elaborate statute of a man sitting on a throne and the very tip of his hat is the pyramid that the tourists are admiring. I still laugh when I think of it.
I attribute my twisted sense of humor to Mad Magazine. My parents didn't approve, it was marginal. But they DID take away my complete set of Ian Fleming Bond books.... just too racy!

Jack Davis was my all around favorite.
Remember "SuperDuperMan"?
