Four years of Latin in high school did not help prepare me for life. Studying finance would have been more rewarding. It is ironic that it was my best subject.

Wonderfully logical, with inviolable declensions. Really helped with English and other "Romance" languages. Had a wonderful fun teacher the first year, and an unbearable jerk the 2nd year who (what we would now call) stalked my buddy's older sister. After several warnings, my buddy (played on the varsity football team) tossed him over the desk and was politely advised by the principal to "not throw teachers over the desk anymore" back when family honor meant something. Now they'd have a S.W.A.T. team lock down the school for that and take a student away in handcuffs at gunpoint.

Hadda take two years of Latin (Parochial HS in NJ)....turned out to be a great help[not only in other, Romance, languages, but also in English vocabulary...I sucked out loud in the subject, though...it was taught with the assumption you had paid attention to English grammar (Latin was taught grammatically, not conversationally - as were 'modrern' languages). Because I had slept through, or most likely been reading a book, during those classes - grammar & math were my least favorite classes) I missed learning the parts of speech and had a HELL of a time with Latin, despite having to memnorize Latin as an altar boy in the 50s & 60s
