The CT-100 wasn't the first to be sold, but rather the first to be mass-produced. Westinghouse had a color set several months earlier but only sold a couple dozen of them.
First time our family had a color set was 1964... By then, the screen sizes were similar to the sizes available in B&W sets, but the color and sharpness were still just... Okayish.
They first time I saw TV's in department stores that had near-identical sharpness to B&W sets and at least fairly true color was about 1975.
Pretty amazing that they could get a color set to work at ALL back in '54...
