As for me being a tough guy because I wore taps? I wore them because they helped make the shoes last longer! But the taps shown are kind of small...I walked on my heels so I did not have them at the top but on the bottom of the heel and when I switched from shoes to boots, I wore what I called horse shoe taps because they covered the outside of the whole heel! But after I got older, I did not need them and so took them off completely...

The tough guys in High School wore these so you could hear them bopping down the hall.

I remember buying this. Came in a small package and included the little nails.
