Tasty bananas

Prior to 1960, almost all banana found in U.S. markets were of the Gros Michel variety, but these were essentially wiped out by disease. Nowadays, we have the Cavendish variety, which many people find less flavorful. And a deadly form of Panama disease is now threatening the Cavendish bananas, so scientists are trying to find another, resistant, variety in the wild.
