I graduated from high school in 1975 and my grades in high school were pretty atrocious. But I was very popular in school. I made it into four Who's Who books, simply on popularity alone. For three of the books, if I actually bought the book (which I didn't), I could add a picture. There were scams over 40 years ago. I was more excited, six years later, when my picture was in the European Stars and Stripes (daily newspaper) carrying my tuba off the stage from a performance of the 298th Army Band at a beer tent in Berlin, Germany.

At one time, books of this sort may have been useful. Now, however, many of them seem to be scams where the only people in the book are those who have agreed to buy a copy of the book. I suppose that's useful, though, if you want information on all the gullible people in your field.
