The band was from Chapel Hill, NC.  "Put a Lid on It,"  and "Hell" were two hits for them.  The video for the latter was excellent.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS2IBMQIjDo

Squirrel Nut Zippers is the name of a jazz/rock band formed in the mid 90's and they had a few hits. I hadn't thought of them for years and see that they're still active, playing shows on a regular basis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS2IBMQIjDo I have a vague memory of seeing them in concert once in 90's here in Utah. Not sure where but they had a good show.

We called them Squirrel Nut Chews in West Michigan
