Some trivia about this wonderful movie. (1) The Roald Dahl children's book was entitled "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", not Willy Wonka. The producers of the film elected not to use the word "Charlie" in the title of the movie because at the time (1971) the word "Charlie" was slang for Chinese soldiers who were fighting the US and its allies in Vietnam. Rather than inflame the Chinese, the producers simply changed the name. (2) Roald Dahl hated this movie, so much that he refused to allow the producers the rights to a film version of the book's sequel, "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator". I read that book - it stinks. (3) Peter Ostrow, who played Charlie, hated the experience of making the movie and he never made another film of any kind, either in theaters or on TV. He is now a retired physician living in Canada. (4) The fantastic Futurama episode "Fry and the Slurm Factory" is a great sendup of this movie.
Or..as one film reviewer has stated for the former website.."Kiddie Matinee".."Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory"is miles ahead of the forgetable Tim Burton remake starring:Johnny Depp.
Hollywood attempted to "update" this concept, but, in the immortal words of Mr. Wonka, "...one should never doubt what one is not sure about" if memory serves me.
