My 1st transistor radio
This is my (Bob K) 1st Transistor radio I received for my First Communion in 1960.  It is barely larger than a pack of Camel regular cigarettes. Yes, this is the one I recieved and it does still work.  Just can't buy the special 9V battery anymore.  Have to stack a bunch of button cells together now.

Tommie, the square 9V batteries are still available everywhere. This one uses a round 9V battery that is the size of a AA cell with a male snap on one end and a female snap on the other. They haven't been made in decades. But today I discovered that there is an alkaline one made for medical equipment like the one shown below.

You should still be able to buy the square 9 volt batteries. Most smoke detectors use them, as well as alarm clock radios that use them as battery backups. Try the big hardware stores like Lowe's and Menards, but be prepared, they are not cheap.
