Living overseas, I bought a pair of penny loafers in Indonesia for work and I tried to put a penny in the slot but it was too big. The Indonesians who wore them put a 1,000 rupiah coin in there (worth about a quarter then, now much less than that). So I did put a quarter in the slots.

In my school, the kids who thought they were REALLY cool put dimes in them rather than pennies. Sheesh.
