I remember hopping some of the Erie/Lacakawana trains out of the yard on Broadway near Bennzinger St. in Buffalo. Good times!

The singer Phoebe Snow is the namesake (by her own choice) of the original Phoebe Snow. Miss Phoebe Snow was an invention of the Lackawanna Railroad. She always travelled in white. Lackawanna was The Road of Anthracite, or cleaner burning hard coal. To paraphrase one of the ads:

Miss Snow is right
From day to night
Her gown stays clean and snowy white
Upon the Road of Anthracite

An example of the many rhyming ads the Lackawanna made over many years is this one I remember that was composed when the Hudson Tubes started running from Penn Station to Lackawanna's terminal in Hoboken, site of the present NJTransit station.

Now Phoebe Snow
Direct can go
From thirty-third to Buffalo
From Broadway bright
The tubes run right
Into The Road of Anthracite.
