Roberto Clemente died on December 31, 1972 in a plane crash, delivering goods to people in Central America who had experienced an earthquake. He had achieved his 3,000th hit on the last day of the 1972 season off Tom Seaver of the Mets. By special waiver, he was inducted into Cooperstown the following year.

Those were the days ..... now they are just a farm club bringing in the stars to trade to other teams!
